Ben Gibbard, frontman of Death Cab For Cutie, has taken a swing at Jay Z's new streaming sevice, Tidal, in an interview with The Daily Beast, predicting that the service will "fail miserably".
Gibbard criticised the service's overblown launch, claiming that they "blew it" by gathering a bunch of multi-million/billionaires together to "complain about not being paid".
"There was a wonderful opportunity squandered to highlight what this service would mean for artists who are struggling and to make a plea to people’s hearts and pocketbooks to pay a little more for this service that was going to pay these artists a more reasonable streaming rate, and they didn’t do it. That’s why this thing is going to fail miserably.”
Gibbard is not the first to criticise the service, with indie/folk heroes Mumford & Sons having made similar comments in recent interviews.
Death Cab For Cutie released their latest album, 'Kintsugi', earlier this month. You can check out our review of the record here.
