Dean Lewis Teases Debut Album With Powerful New Single

A taste of things to come.

More Dean Lewis Dean Lewis

Sydney singer-songwriter Dean Lewis is baring his soul with new cut Be Alright, the powerful first single from his highly anticipated debut album.

Tackling the topic of betrayal, the stripped back new tune, described as “brutal, honest and stirring”, presents a new side of Lewis and points at big things to come, building off the artist’s widely-acclaimed 2017 Same Kind Of Different EP

Be Alright is actually written about a few different relationships, some were mine and some from friends,” Lewis said.

“I took little bits and pieces from each experience and combined them into one song.

“For people worried about me cause the song's so sad - trust me I’m ok… the song is actually about hope and knowing that in the end things will work out, surrounding yourself with good people."

Drawing inspiration from his musical heroes, Noel Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft, Lewis returned to the UK to work with Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway, the same team who produced his debut EP. It's with them he managed to capture the raw emotions of the song’s original demo.

“I finally knew we had it because when I was listening back to the song, I could feel the emotion coming out of my voice,” Lewis said.

The fast-rising Aussie act has had a whirlwind 12 months since the release of his EP, and after touring the world, he has a newfound conviction when it comes to storytelling, singing and songwriting.

“I think a lot of people are in their rooms writing songs, thinking it's not good enough or wondering why your voice doesn’t sound like everyone else's,” he said.

“But those things you think are weaknesses are actually your strengths. It’s what makes you unique. And after a bit of time, it’s the thing that gives you confidence.”
