This is the anthem for your daydreams.
This is the anthem for your daydreams.
On June 30th, via Australia's own Hobbledehoy Records, Brisbane's Deafcult will release their latest batch of noise-pop/shoegaze dreamscapes; 'Auras'. And their latest single to be taken from this new album, 'Summertime', has only made me even more excited for this 12-track record!
Their 2015 self-titled EP was a solid listen of post-punky shoegaze, with high levels of reverb, bright and distorted guitar layers, hazy vocals, lively drumming, and fuzzy moments in all the right places. While this debut full-length is set to be a more or less familiar experience it's also primed to be a greater, better beast overall. As 'Summertime' proves.

According to Deafcult themselves, the forthcoming 'Auras' will deal with the nature of dreams; the "ghosts of people, places and situations past that haunt our night's sleep, or lack-thereof. Reflecting on romanticised memories as a disaffected suburban teenager, tales of love, drugs, death and what it meant to both discover and lose yourself. You told yourself it was going to last forever, but with an underlying sadness that you knew it couldn’t last."
Now, I don't know about you, but that sounds like an incredibly fitting emotional backdrop for beautifully touching music such as this.
So, with their latest dreamily dense single, the previously released banger 'Rubix' also available, with the sextet's lineup fully solidified and their four-sided guitar-pop attack tightened and pushed to its peak; 'Auras' has the potential to be something very special. We'll find out just how true that will be come June 30th.
Stream 'Summertime' below and let it transport you back to a simpler, better time in your life.
