'Daredevil' Renewed For Second Season On Netflix

Marvel's acclaimed web series will continue under the guidance of new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez

Daredevil, the first series in Marvel Comics' grand Netflix 'experimental' cabal of shows, has officially been renewed for a second season following the first season's release to universal critical acclaim, the comics giant has announced.

Due to air next year, the second season of Daredevil will usher in two new showrunners, Doug Petrie (Buffy The Vampire SlayerAmerican Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons Of Anarchy), both of whom worked on the show's first 13 episodes as co-executive producer and supervising producer respectively (with Ramirez also penning episode three, Rabbit In A Snowstorm, and co-writing highly praised sixth episode Condemned).

Petrie and Ramirez will work alongside incumbents Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods) and Jeph Loeb (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.), while first-season co-executive producer Steven S. DeKnight — who also wrote several episodes, including the first-season's eponymous finale — will not be returning.

"While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch," DeKnight said in a statement issued by Marvel.

"They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

Daredevil's first season was released in its entirety on Netflix — even in Australia — less than two weeks ago (on 10 April) and in the time since has had praise generously heaped upon it by critics and viewers alike, with much credit being directed towards the casting, acting, writing — heck, let's just call it "the whole damn show" and be done with it — and the series' noticeably darker tone than the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The show stars Charlie Cox as the titular hero and his civilian alter-ego, blind lawyer Matt Murdock, with an almost-unrecognisable Vincent D'Onofrio starring as arch-rival Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk, Mighty Ducks alum Elden Henson as offsider Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Vondie Curtis Hall as journalist Ben Urich and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple/the Night Nurse.

Daredevil's second season will follow this year's AKA Jessica Jones and next year's Luke Cage series, which also precede fourth Marvel web show Iron Fist — which was heavily hinted at throughout Daredevil's first season — and crossover miniseries (from all four standalones) The Defenders.
