Revered musicians and frontmen Chris Cheney and Phil Jamieson have been announced as the lead stars of the Australian cast of Green Day's American Idiot musical, just weeks out from its premiere in Brisbane.
Cheney (The Living End) and Jamieson (Grinspoon) will share the role of St Jimmy, alongside a huge cast that features Ben Bennett, Cameron MacDonald, Alex Jeans, Phoebe Panaretos, Rowena Vilar and Ashleigh Barlow.
"We had over 600 people from across the nation audition for parts and believe we have on board a collection of the most authentic and talented performers," artistic director, Nick Skubij, said.
"Who better to portray this electric story than actual rock stars themselves?
"We are stoked to have two iconic Australian band front men, Chris Cheney and Phil Jamieson, along with a hugely talented group of young musical theatre stars and an acclaimed creative team."
The production hits QPAC from 23 February, having won two Tony Awards and a Grammy in 2010 for Best Musical Show album after hugely successful runs in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
