“We have always dreamed of going to space and are stoked to collaborate with World View to have this adventure and experience. We know the views of both Earth and space are going to be incredible and inspiring, and we hope to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.”
The Chainsmokers are set to make history by becoming the first band to perform in space. The electro duo responsible for Closer, Don't Hold Me Down and Something Just Like This will launch into space in 2024, and perform inside of a pressurized capsule, positioned some 32km above the Earth.
The unique experience will be made possible by a partnership with space tourism company World View. The band shared a statement in response to the extraordinary announcement.
“We have always dreamed of going to space and are stoked to collaborate with World View to have this adventure and experience. We know the views of both Earth and space are going to be incredible and inspiring, and we hope to leverage this flight for creativity on future projects.”
A statement from World View via the Associated Press revealed that the feat will make The Chainsmokers' members Drew Taggart and Alex Pall the first artists to perform at the edge of space. The space tourism company's CEO Ryan Hartman confirmed the once-in-a-lifetime performance will take place in 2024.
"The Chainsmokers will be on one of the company’s inaugural flights slated for 2024 and will record a performance from inside the capsule, giving viewers the ability to experience the music and the trip firsthand"
As for what they might play on their space flight, the song High seems particularly suited to the experience.

Explaining why World View decided to send The Chainsmokers on one of their inaugural flights, Hartman shared that "World View hopes sending up artists might inspire them to do something different than they would have otherwise done.” “We think about inspiring new perspectives and how those new perspectives can lead to a radically improved future for our Earth.” “To be able to reach the audience of The Chainsmokers through Alex and Drew’s work contributes to our mission as well. It’s something that I’m personally inspired by and excited about.”
In other game-changing news, The Chainsmokers announced in May that they are giving a portion of streaming royalties from the new album So Far So Good away for free to fans.
