Can Daft Punk Be Knocked From Top Spot Already?

Could the hyped French duo already lose their number one position on the charts?

The mammoth first week of sales for Daft Punk and their Random Access Memories LP, which sold more copies in its first week of release than any other record this year, might mean the sales coming to a swifter halt than usual for the LP in its second week of release.

Rest assured the might of releases like Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox LP, Michael Buble's To Be Loved and the star-studded soundtrack for The Great Gatsby, which opens in cinemas tomorrow, will be waiting to snap up top spot if the public has fallen out of love with The Robots already.

Strong chart debuts are expected with albums from grunge legends Alice In Chains with their fifth album – and first in four years – The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, Splendour-bound Laura Marling's stunning Once I Was An Eagle, which we streamed last week and Jamie Cullum's Momentum.

On the singles chart, Robin Thicke is fighting for a fourth week in the top spot with Blurred Lines but has strong competition from former number ones Daft Punk's Get Lucky and Passenger's Let Her Go as well as Bastille's Pompeii, which will look to nab top spot for the first time in its 11 weeks on the chart.

Matt Corby's Resolution will spend its second week in the chart higher than its debut spot of number 34 on current figures, while Lana Del Rey's Young And Beautiful, Ke$ha's Crazy Kids and Armin van Buuren's This Is What It Feels Like will all enjoy higher spots when the charts are released this Saturday night.
