Mathcore legends Botch have shocked the heavy music community by dropping a new song, One Twenty Two.

The first new song from the recently reunited band in over twenty years, One Twenty Two arrived seemingly out of nowhere yesterday via their label Sargent House. Today they've issued a video clip for the song and announced that it will appear on an upcoming re-issue of their influential 1999 album We Are the Romans.

The existence of One Twenty Two has created huge excitement in mathcore circles and the organic manner in which the song came together suggests that we might not have heard the last of Botch as a creative entity yet. In a statement shared by Brooklyn Vegan, Guitarist David Knudson explains how One Twenty Two came to be.

"During Covid, I was writing my debut solo LP, and mentally, I was sick of everything in quarantine. Lots of frustration had set in at home, and I figured the best way to deal with it was to write something heavy. I had no intention of writing anything for Botch, but when I was thinking of a singer to collaborate with, I thought, “Hey, I know the best hardcore singer ever to do it,” so I hit up Dave V. He was super excited and so it just kind of snowballed from there. There was never any intent or conversation about getting back together or writing. It just happened so naturally and was a great release for all of us to make it happen without any of the traditional pressure an “active” band faces."

One Twenty Two is immediately identifiable as a Botch track, with the classic blend of Knudson's signature tone and Dave Velleron's voice feeling as vital and inspired as ever. The rhythms of bassist Brian Cook (Russian Circles) and drummer Tim Latona absolutely crush too. The result is a track that sounds like it leapt out of the early 2000s, in the best possible way.
