In honour of the late singer's Scottish roots.

More AC/DC More AC/DC

A life-size statue of late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott has been unveiled in Scotland this weekend, honouring the iconic singer's roots.

According to Blabbermouth, the bronze statue was revealed during the tenth annual Bonfest and is the result of a two-year crowdfunding campaign, which drew support from thousands of fans and even fellow AC/DC band members.

"When I was a kid, I used to listen to Bon Scott and when I did that, I never in a million years thought I'd be a sculptor and never thought I'd be making a statue of Bon Scott, the son of Kirriemuir, this musical icon," sculptor John McKenna said.

"This has happened because fans from all over the world donated money for this statue — it wouldn't have happened otherwise."

Former AC/DC bassist Mark Evans called the statue "magical".

"Bon was a great pal and it's just great to be in the place where he came from. The statue has captured his essence, right down to his tattoos," Evans said.

"Bon would have been turning 70 this year. I was just 19 when I joined the band — he was ten years older — but you couldn't help but like the guy. He was a hellraiser but there was another side to him and he never forgot his Scottish roots. He'd have been absolutely chuffed to have a statue in Kirriemuir."

Scott was born in Angus in 1946 and relocated to Western Australia at the age of six. He featured on the band's first six albums, before he sadly died at the age of 33 due to alcohol poisoning.

Meanwhile, AC/DC are currently gearing up for a string of European shows with Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose taking over from Brian Johnson, who was forced to pull out of touring or risk permanent hearing loss.
