More Beyonce More Beyonce

The wait is over! The first taste of Beyoncé’s forthcoming seventh record, Renaissance, has been unleashed.

Highly anticipated new single Break My Soul is well on its way to breaking the internet (at least if Twitter is anything to go by), after its lyric video dropped via YouTube.

The new track, with its instantly familiar yet fresh “you won’t break my soul” hook, features previous collaborator Big Freedia.

Break My Soul was teased last night when Queen B updated her Instagram bio with the song’s name and “midnight ET”, while also confirming it’s the sixth track on Renaissance.

Big Freedia today tweeted: “It feels surreal to be on the track with the Queen Beyonce once again I’m so honored to be apart of this special moment I’m forever grateful lord.”

The arrival of the lead cut follows the album’s announcement last week, with Beyoncé locking in a July 19 release date.

The 16-track release has been labelled ‘act I’, suggesting the project will be expansive, with clues pointing towards a double album.

It's also expected that Renaissance will land with an extravagant, visual component too, with her previous releases dropping on big streaming platforms.

From Lemonade premiering through HBO, Homecoming landing as a part of a $60 million dollar deal with Netflix and Black Is King with Disney, there's no doubt that Renaissance will follow a similar path.

Beyoncé has been kept very busy since the release of releasing Lemonade in 2016; she released a collaborative album with Jay-Z in 2018 under their family moniker, The Carterstitled Everything Is Love, and headlined Coachella in 2019, which landed alongside documentary and live album HOMECOMING.

Then followed 2020’s Black Is Kinga visual album that released in support of and alongside 2019s The Lion King: The Gift, which featured collaborators Childish Gambino, Kendrick LamarPharrell and more.

She also performed at this year's controversial Academy Awards after soundtracking King Richard via Be Alive.

With all that in mind, we can be sure that Renaissance will bring with it a lot of other projects.
