Today triple j announced the final nominees for their Unearthed Artist Of The Year – the award the national broadcaster presents to the act they feel has demonstrated “the most musical growth and potential to contribute to Australian music”.
The list for 2013 is a particularly impressive one, with a number of very well-known burgeoning acts making the final shortlist this year.
Melbourne MC Remi, hip hop duo Jackie Onassis, Armidale folkie Dustin Tebbutt, Sydney producer Wave Racer, Brisbane pop genius Jeremy Neale, Canberra indie-electro dudes SAFIA and Sydney sextet Tigertown are the seven lucky acts nominated, and we'll find out who wins on Friday 22 November, when the winners are announced at the J Awards in Sydney.
If you're wondering whether it's a prize worth winning; let's just say that past winners include Boy & Bear, The John Steel Singers, Ball Park Music, The Rubens and The Middle East, so there is a pretty good track record of whoever takes this thing out going on to do pretty big things.
Did triple j get it right in 2013? Who deserves to win?
