‘Doc Neeson Went Ballistic’: TV Doco On The Angels’ Iconic ‘83 Gig Airing Tonight

Rick Brewster, John Brewster and Dave Gleeson will take fans back to 1983 tonight when they detail The Angels’ unforgettable performance at Narara Music Festival.

The band’s appearance at the NSW event went down in history as one of the best Aussie performances of all time, and it will be recalled tonight as part of ongoing TV documentary series Days Like These...with Diesel.

Episode four of the series will premiere tonight at 8:30pm on ABC TV Plus and ABC iView.

As reported by Tonight TV, here’s what fans can expect from tonight’s episode:

In 1983, The Angels had something to prove. They had just come off a disappointing US tour and lead singer Doc Neeson had announced to his fellow band members that this would be his last gig. For two days, all the top bands in Australia played to a crowd of more than 40,000 fans in a country music festival known as Narara.

Narara 1983 is remembered mainly for the riveting show put on by one band, The Angels. Beneath a full, blood-red moon, Doc Neeson went ballistic, literally risking life and limb to deliver one of the most mesmerising performances by any front man, ever.

Hosted by musician Mark Lizotte, aka Diesel, Days Like These... revisits “some of the most brilliant and unforgettable moments in Australian music history”.

Jet’s 2004 performance at The Forum kicked things off earlier this month before Baby Animals and Hunters & Collectors were featured in episodes two and three.

Following The Angels tonight, episodes on Diesel, Rose Tattoo and Jimmy Barnes will run into June before Eurogliders, Archie Roach, Icehouse, Troy Cassar-Daley and Cold Chisel feature later in the year.

When the series was first announced, Lizotte said: “Days Like These…with Diesel has been an absolute delight and honour to host. 

“The series brings together some of the most quintessential Australian bands from the past few decades, that help define our nation’s recent music past, and celebrates important, moments in their concert history."
