Amy Taylor To Star In 'RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under' Season Three

Amyl & The Sniffers vocalist Amy Taylor will star in season three of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under, joining a massive roster of celebrity guest judges.

The third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will premiere next Friday, 28 July. Taylor is in fine company, with touring Queen singer Adam Lambert, The Flash actor Keiynan Lonsdale, Adelaide United soccer player Josh Cavallo, and many more slated to appear as guest judges. You can tune in to all episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under on Stan.

“Guys I been excited to tell you that I’m a Guest Judge on the next season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under,” Taylor wrote on Instagram this morning, accompanied by a series of excited emojis. She added, “It’s actually so sick tbh hehe I can’t believe her”.

Triple j Mornings’ Lucy Smith responded excitedly, commenting on Taylor’s post, “SNIFFER? I HARDLY KNOW HER!” Melbourne-based Māori singer Kira Piru said “slay”, while Meg Washington called the Amyl & The Sniffers meets RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under collaboration “Unspeakably perfect”.

On a May episode of the Boldly Me podcast with Chloé Hayden (of Netflix’s Heartbreak High fame), Taylor talked about going from the Mullumbimby IGA to Amyl & The Sniffers’ growth, sexual harassment and the prejudices she faces.

Taylor explained that people make rushed judgments about her voice and look – “A lot of them can be negative,” she said.

“People think I’m one-dimensional,” Taylor continued, “or they go like ‘Oh, cos of the way she looks and dresses, like, oh her arse cheeks are out, she must be a dumb-arse.’ 

"Or, you know, like, ‘Because of the way she speaks, you must be uneducated’ – and look, I’m not crazy educated… but the main thing is I’m hungry to learn, and I ask questions, and that’s what a smart person does… It’s like all these prejudices wrapped up in one, but I’m just existing, and it can be complicated for people to understand that.

“I get judged a lot in a lot of different ways,” Taylor admitted, and that leads to the Knifey singer wanting to “bitch” at insults. “People should show me more respect.”

Also in May, The Smashing Pumpkins vocalist Billy Corgan called Taylor a “true rockstar”. Later this year, Amyl & The Sniffers will headline NSW’s newest punk, metal, and alternative festival, Off The Rails.

The massive two-day event is packed with a who’s who of Australian punk and rock music right now, including Adelaide alt-metal outfit The Mark Of Cain, the band who filled vinyl with urine, Private Function, RVG, Shady Nasty, Full Flower Moon Band, Dust, Southeast Desert Metal, the band who mocked former Australian Prime Ministers, Downgirl, and many more.

Off The Rails will occur at Bar On The Hill’s Forecourt in Newcastle on Saturday, 30 September, and at Railway Parade in Marrickville, Sydney, on Sunday, 1 October. Tickets are available here.
