The 'Because I Got High' singer was a few songs into his set when the incident occurred

American musician Joseph Foreman, better known by his stage moniker Afroman, was reportedly arrested last night (US time) after knocking a female fan to the ground with one punch during a performance in Mississippi.

According to local news network WLOX, Foreman was performing in Biloxi, at a venue called Kress Live, following the city's Mardi Gras parade earlier in the day. Foreman was "about five songs into his set", venue owner Chase Taylor told the outlet, when a woman walked on stage. After she spends some time pretty harmlessly dancing behind Foreman, he then turns without warning and knocks her down before resuming his guitar solo as if he didn't just beat another human being in front of a room of concert-goers.

According to WLOX, the victim of Foreman's attack made a citizen's arrest and filed an affidavit against Foreman, who police formally arrested and charged with misdemeanor simple assault. He has since been released on bail, while police indicated he "gave [them] no problem whatsoever", WLOX reports.

As Taylor told the outlet, following the incident, the club "pulled the plug on him, and security met him at the bottom of the stage to escort him outside, where he was taken into custody".

"Kress Live does not condone this type of behaviour," Taylor said. "We like to keep a safe environment, and we addressed the situation the best way we could."

Foreman himself obliquely referenced the incident in a social media post today (AEST) that merely read, "Because I didn't get high".
