Around a year ago, we stumbled upon an artist named FIVI who caught my attention.

His music was filled with UK-inspired Drill beats and impactful vocals, but what was even more interesting is that he belonged to a label called 051 Records, located in the vibrant city of Adelaide, operated and owned by a tight-knit group of friends and brothers.

FIVI a dynamic rapper and lyricist, stood out with his razor-sharp wordplay and captivating delivery. His music resonates with listeners, showcasing his ability to paint vivid pictures through his rhymes.

Ghee9inee brings an undeniably charismatic presence to the mix, blending melodic hooks with raw energy and authenticity, making him a rising star to watch closely.

Kayymurda's lyrical prowess and intricate storytelling captivate audiences, earning him a reputation as an artist who effortlessly combines introspection with gritty realism.

Amiri, with their unique style and captivating presence, adds another layer of diversity and talent to the label's impressive lineup, and soon-to-be-released artist DLO.

Interestingly, all the members of 051 Records reside in different suburbs surrounding Adelaide, which collectively represent the essence of the city.

Fivi hails from Blakeview, Kayymurda from Andrews Farm, Ghee9inee from Craigmore, and Amiri from Munno Para West. The number 5 holds significance as it symbolizes Adelaide, whose postal code is 5000.

In a world where labels often overshadow the depth of individual experiences, a group of artists emerges, determined to shed light on their untold stories.

Hailing from South Sudan and now residing in Australia due to the aftermath of war, these artists delve into their circumstances through their music, painting vivid pictures of the lives they've led.

As immigrants from South Sudan, their families sought refuge in Australia, fleeing the ravages of a brutal conflict. Tragically, many of these families found themselves led by single mothers, as the war had claimed the lives of most fathers.

The absence of a father figure, combined with the harsh realities of poverty, pushed many youths towards the desperate paths of crime, inevitably leading to incarceration.

Their songs serve as a narrative, meticulously crafted to represent their experiences with authenticity and sincerity. They refuse to let the media's attempt to define them dampen their spirits.

Behind the scenes, there is a plethora of untold stories that are conveniently brushed off with the dismissive notion of "it's just Australia." It is through their music that these artists reclaim their voices, sharing the stories and experiences that rarely find a platform in the mainstream.

Their music becomes a powerful medium, amplifying the struggles, triumphs, and resilience within their community.

It offers a rare glimpse into the depths of their emotions, showcasing the complexities that arise from their unique backgrounds.

Through their art, they challenge stereotypes, shatter misconceptions, and demand that their narratives be heard and understood.

Join these artists on their journey as they courageously use music as a tool for change, shining a light on the overlooked and marginalised aspects of their lives.

It is time to unveil the untold stories, providing a much-needed perspective and fostering empathy in a world that too often turns a blind eye to the realities of others.

We had the privilege of sitting down with the team behind 051 Records to discuss their exciting plans for the upcoming year and the meaning behind the importance of brotherhood.

PS: What can we expect from 051 Records for the remainder of this year?

Amiri: DLO has his debut single coming soon, but we (myself included) have new singles and video dropping in the second half of 2023.

Fivi: A new side of drill and melody that Australia has never heard before. I believe our artists are some of the most versatile artists that have come out of our backyard.

Our work ethic and talent are next level — we have plans to further collab with big names in the Industry, and I believe we will give our artists a platform for the world.

PS: Can you tell us a little more about the 5 — Your experience growing up, and the challenges you have faced?

Fivi: The music of our artists is heavily influenced by the struggles and hardship they’ve had growing up, being exposed to so much at a young age the boys turned to the streets as what they would see as an escape route from reality.

In and out of the police system since the ages of 13 the boys then turned to music which has allowed them to expose themselves in a positive way.

I believe all of our artists have really found who they truly are since making music as it gives them a way to express who they really are and what they have been through.

It began as a hobby for all which has turned into a passion that they are all looking to pursue as a career.

PS: What does 051 Records as a label, brotherhood and movement mean to you?

Kayymurda: It’s deeper than just the music, and deeper than just regular friendships, we look at each other as brothers that all have the same interest so correct it’s like a brotherhood.

PS: Your videos are jam-packed full of energy, and your songs are hard-hitting straight out the gate – Who are your influences for making releases —- And or your videos?

Kayymurda: Tbh my biggest influences are Fivi, Amiri, Ghee9 and Dlo. When we are all in the studio together makes us grow all together and we motivate each other.

I feel like having all the other artists keeps me on my feet and helps me not get lazy.

In terms of famous artists, my biggest influences and favorites would be Lil Durk, King Von and Yungeen Ace.

PS: Will you be making your way over to the East Coast in the near future?

Fivi: 100%, are artists who have plans to tour the country and show Australia who they are.

Coming from Adelaide I would say they are a bit hard done by as the music scene specifically is so small here.

All of our artists would grab and take any opportunity they could get at touring and play gigs outside of Adelaide.

As of now, there are no shows planned for Adelaide but most likely there will be some occurring later this year.

PS: What can we expect from the upcoming Dio release? Describe the vibe?

DLO: My next release is gonna be a song I’ve got with Kayymurda, imo it’s a melodic song that everyone can feel within themselves.
