MusicSA has just announced that the nominations for the 2024 South Australian Music Awards are now officially open. Bands and artists of all genres, as well as other music businesses, are “encouraged” to nominate themselves into whatever category is most applicable to them.

The event, referred to as South Australian music’s “night of nights”, will be taking place this year at Dom Polski Centre, on Thursday November 7th. Early bird tickets to the awards ceremony are now available on the South Australian Music Awards website.

Those nominating themselves or others have 33 categories to choose from, all of which fall into one of two sectors: the People’s Choice awards, where winners are voted for by the public, and the Industry Voted awards, which are judged by an independent panel of local and national judges.

MusicSA has also announced the introduction of a new category this year: the Best Live Music Photography award. For the first time ever, this award will go to a photograph taken at a South Australian live music event that occurred between August 1st 2023 and August 1st 2024. The artist or subject in the photo may be from anywhere in the world.

To be eligible for any of the categories, applicants must have spent 9 of the last 12 months living in South Australia at a residential South Australian address, and the work or activity entered into the awards category must have taken place between August 1st 2023 and August 1st 2024. All applicants must be registered with APRA AMCOS / One Music. All entered works must be original compositions.

The event was a huge success last year, with The Empty Threats and DEM MOB sweeping both People’s Choice and Industry Voted award categories, with the former winning Best New Artist and Best Song, and the latter winning Best Regional Artist, Best Aboriginal Artist, Best Hip Hop Award, and the special APRA AMCOS Emily Burrows Award.
