Bad Neighbour are entering a new phase of their career. Today, the Brisbane punk rockers – who describe their music as “sad rock” – release a new single and announce their signing to Ninth Life Records.

Ninth Life Records launched in Queensland in April. A home for “emo, sad punk, and grunge-leaning sounds,” the newly founded label aims to fill a hole in the market and advocate for those in the alternative music space.

Celebrating the latest milestone of their career, Bad Neighbour have dropped the melodic rock song Snarling.

The band will officially unveil their latest single in a live setting this July while opening for The Smith Street Band across the country. Vocalist Cooper Riley said of the track, “Snarling was written after the end of a long relationship. I was coming to terms with letting someone down, and how my life had changed and what the landscape of my future looked like.”

Led by Cooper Riley (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), joined by Zoe Middleton (lead guitar/vocals), Liam Sumner (bass/vocals) and Jack Parkes (drums), Bad Neighbour released their debut album, Millions, last September. Before its release, the singles 20,000 knife fights, In The Car, And The Fleas, Heart Pumps Blood and The Middle boosted its streams, leading to over 150,000 plays on Spotify before fans had heard the album.

As part of the Destroy All Lines roster, Bad Neighbour has enjoyed support slots for American acts such as Hot Mulligan, Microwave, Badflower, Mom Jeans, Sweet Pill, and Spanish Love Songs. They were also featured on the New Bloom Festival and Good Things Festival line-ups last March and December, respectively. Signing to Ninth Life Records marks the beginning of even more achievements.

Founded by Talk Heavy’s Tayla Ellerby and Greyscale Records CEO Joshua Merriel, Ninth Life Records arrives with established connections to the scene, a deep love for music, and “a shared commitment to giving back to the community.”

“Ninth Life Records was founded to fill a current void in the scene with many Australian bands in the emo space not having representation that caters to their specific sound and needs,” their website reads. “At its core, the mission is simple: sad punks helping sad punks.”

Bad Neighbour are the second act to join the Ninth Life Records roster, accompanying Talk Heavy.
