Next month, Christmas arrives early for Aussies who love metal, punk, rock, and emo, as the country’s travelling heavy and alternative music event, Good Things Festival, rolls into town.

Forged in 2018, Good Things immediately became the largest alternative rock-leaning festival held in Australia since the demise of Soundwave. Its first year secured the likes of The Offspring, Stone Sour, BABYMETAL, Bullet For My Valentine, Tonight Alive and many more, bringing tens of thousands of punters to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

With its return in 2019, the festival secured a larger Sydney venue and headliners Parkway Drive and A Day to Remember, along with acts including Violent Soho, Simple Plan, Bad Religion, The Veronicas, and many more. Unfortunately, the festival didn’t take place in 2020 and 2021 due to crowd restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned with a bang in 2022.

Bring Me The Horizon. Deftones. TISM. NOFX. Jinjer. The 2022 edition of Good Things was massive, and the team didn’t let up with the 2023 line-up.

Led by Fall Out Boy, Limp Bizkit, and Devo, Good Things 2023 had a little something for everyone. Last year’s event saw the long-awaited return of Korn, plus performances by Violent Femmes, Electric Callboy, 311, Killing Heidi (playing Reflector in full), and more, plus the Australian debuts of From Ashes To New and Imminence.

With the return of Good Things just a month away, The Music has rounded up everything you need to know ahead of this year’s festival.

Who’s on the line-up?

This year’s line-up is headlined by Tool, who are confirmed for their first Australian festival headline since Big Day Out in 2011 and their first tour dates Down Under in five years. Meanwhile, Buddy Holly rockers Weezer have second billing, and Garbage make their long-awaited return to Australia for the first time in nearly a decade.

Machine Head will play their first Australian festival dates in 13 years, and The All-American Rejects will return to our shores for the first time in 16 years.

Representing the heavy are Knocked Loose, Lorna Shore, and Refused – the latter are “fucking dead” and bringing their final-ever shows to Australia – Kublai Khan TX, Dayseeker, Fever 333, and Australia’s own Make Them Suffer. Pop-punk will also be kept alive by Yours Truly, New Found Glory, Cobra Starship, Goldfinger, and a reunited Tonight Alive.

Last month, organisers announced that viral sensation Maple’s Pet Dinosaur would be joining the line-up.

Check out the full line-up below.

DATES AND VENUES:

Friday 5 December - Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne
Saturday 6 December – Sydney Showground, Sydney

Tips and tricks for Good Things 2025… with help from some of the bands!

“Make sure you plan a dope fit for the day—make sure it’s weather-adaptable,” says Inertia’s Julian Latouche. Yours Truly’s Mikaila Delgado concurred with that advice and offered: “Make sure you got some sunglasses, heaps of sunscreen,” with Windwaker’s Liam Guinane and Indey Salvestro advising punters to “slip, slop, slap” and wear a hat.

“Maybe not a beanie, because it’s gonna be like, 30 degrees,” Delgado added. “I think hydration is really underrated and important,” Guinane said. “Another tip, get there early,” commented Salvestro.

“Explore some of the bands in the line-up” is Latouche’s advice. He added, “You don’t know who you’re gonna regret not seeing in five years’ time. Some of the bands that we’re excited about seeing at Good Things are Fever 333, Knocked Loose, GWAR—if you’ve seen them before, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, make sure you make them a part of your Good Things.

“And lastly, just wanna shout out some friends: Windwaker and Dayseeker, playing on the same stage as us: stage 4. Make sure you check them out, too!”

Meanwhile, Delgado is excited to see Cobra Starship and The All-American Rejects, while Windwaker are keen on watching South Arcade, Refused, Make Them Suffer, and Tool (“the prog nerd in me is really looking forward to seeing Tool,” said Guinane).

Is Good Things all-ages?

All Good Things dates for 2025 are 16+ events. You must bring a valid photo ID to verify your age. In previous years, when there was a 15+ age restriction, the teens had to attend with a responsible adult. This year, 16-17-year-olds can attend on their own.

Are tickets sold out?

If you use Facebook or Instagram, chances are you’ve seen a sponsored post from Good Things about how quickly tickets are selling. Good Things Festival is approaching its fastest sell-out year to date. Melbourne is at over 90% sold, Sydney is over 87% sold out, and Brisbane is at over 94% sold out.

Where are the maps and set times?

The Good Things set times were revealed nice and early - in October - so punters can start planning their timetables and travel arrangements.

Across the three events, the day begins at 12:10 pm with Yours Truly and concludes by 9:45 pm, allowing you to get to bed at a reasonable hour. Also exciting for fans is knowing that Tool will be performing a 90-minute set.

Bands including Weezer, Garbage, All Time Low, Machine Head, Lorna Shore, Make Them Suffer, and Cobra Starship will perform for an hour, while other sets throughout the day will play for half an hour to 45 minutes. Of course, there will be some clashes, too - but you can organise your day through the Good Things app to make your experience as smooth as possible.

Check out the set times below.

At the time of publication, maps for this year’s event haven’t been published yet. Keep an eye on Good Things’ social media accounts, the festival website, and the app for details when they become available.

What food options are there at Good Things?

Like the maps, food options for this year’s Good Things haven’t been made available yet. However, like all well-laid-out festivals, you can expect an abundance of food trucks covering options for meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegan punters. Plus, there will be ice cream. Food options will be revealed before you know it!

Is there free water?

Indeed, there is! Check the maps ahead of the festival to see where you can find the free water at your leg of the festival.

What am I allowed to bring to the festival?

Straight from the Good Things website, here’s what you can (and should) and shouldn’t bring onto the grounds:

  • Photo ID

  • Your ticket!

  • Any important phone numbers

  • Sunblock

  • Any medications – if you have a chronic condition or illness (such as asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy), it’s advisable to carry information about your condition and an emergency contact

  • A hat!

  • Charged mobile phone!

  • Comfy clothes and shoes!

  • Small bags and backpacks are allowed (no larger than A4 size), but your bag will be searched upon entry.

  • Video cameras and umbrellas – check your ticket conditions for confirmation.

  • No spike collars or studded belts will be allowed

  • One empty water bottle – if you’re with a group of friends, make sure you all bring one!

  • Snacks, sandwiches, etc!

Is Good Things accessible?

Good Things has a dedicated accessible entrance to cater for patron requirements as well as accessible parking bays. If you need more information on those locations, you can contact the Good Things team here.

The festival also features accessible viewing platforms on the main stages (Stages 1 and 2) and the secondary stages (Stages 3 and 4). However, those platforms are only for patrons with physical mobility requirements and a carer. Punters with temporary injuries and using items such as crutches, moon boots, or similar are unable to use the platforms.

How do I get to the festival?

You can access Good Things in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane via car or public transport, with train stations, tram stops, and bus stops conveniently located near the venues. There will also be designated parking spots for Uber and other rideshare options. Organisers strongly recommend utilising public transport, as there will be traffic and detours on the day.

Bear in mind, however, that there are often limited parking options available, and public transport is encouraged, especially if you’re going to drink alcohol while at the festival. Keep an eye on the festival’s social media channels and website for details as they arrive.

Will there be AUSLAN interpreters?

Yep! The Good Things team has secured Auslan interpreters for the main stages and is also seeking interpreters for the second stages.

What if I can’t use porta-potties? Are there different toilets?

Accessible toilets are located near the accessible viewing platform at Good Things. Check your city’s map for more information on the location of those toilets.

If I feel overwhelmed or need a quiet room, will Good Things have a breakout space like that?

The Good Things team notes that each city will have a dedicated chill-out space for those dealing with sensory overload.

However, due to the nature of the event – a five-stage festival in open venues with loud music – the team cannot guarantee that the space will be completely clear of music or crowds. You can contact the team and discuss specific requirements here. While sensory kits won’t be distributed at the event, you are welcome to bring yours. Please don't hesitate to contact the team here if you have any questions.

Which bands are playing sideshows?

Numerous bands will be playing sideshows alongside their appearances at Good Things, including headliners Tool and acts such as Garbage, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, Knocked Loose, Refused, Fever 333, and many more.

The sideshows include:
