Finally Returning To Australia, Faithless Are Paying Homage To The Beloved Maxi Jazz While Looking To The Future

PREMIERE: 'The Shining' & Sci-Fi Collide With Gleeful Weirdness In Tai Sui's Conceptual 'Celestial' Clip

Well, you could never accuse them of being boring, that's for sure.

Hard-hitting Brisbane outfit Tai Sui have unveiled the ambitious, cinematic clip for their head-banger of a new track, Celestial.

Premiering on theMusic.com.au today, the video infuses a short-film narrative in-between the song's energetic aggression. Starring actors Ayla Zim, Gene Banyard and Jonathan Creed, the story follows a sports centre employee fighting the loneliness and mundanity of her job before it takes a sharp turn straight into The Shining (meshed with a touch of unexpected theatrical sci-fi) in a spoken-word segment about midway through.

The interlude — and the way it fundamentally changes the tone of the clip — is an intriguing concept and well pulled-off, injecting a fantastical element of unease to the whole thing before the song comes storming back in. At the very least, it's an inventive use of the medium, while the industrial/heavy-rock soundtrack showcases Tai Sui's diversity of influences.

The video was filmed by Luke McClean — who also co-directed with writer Jonathan Creed, as well as editing and providing special effects, with Holly Novello — and Nicholas Anthony at Shots For Bands.

The tune itself, like its predecessor Navigators, comes from the band's newly released debut album, Contact, which has landed alongside a raft of new platforms for the year-old outfit, including a new website, new webstore and fresh merch.

The album was partly recorded by Darek Mudge (Screamfeeder) at The Shed, Brisbane, with Tai Sui mixing, mastering and engineering the album alongside Jack Nigro (The Grove Studios, Sydney) and Dave Hammer (Snowdroppers, Thundamentals, Gay Paris).

Tai Sui recently played the Dead Of Winter Festival at the Jubilee Hotel at home in Brissy, with their next show slated for Saturday 30 September, at the New Globe Theatre's Rehydrate 4 event (with Snake Bite Whisky, The Dangerous Folk and Ravens Lair).

They'll also be performing at the Prince Of Wales (Brisbane) for a FemMetalRoc showcase on Friday 20 October (with The Molotov, Modo Rec and Tin Foil Army), and fancy-dress Halloween warehouse event Party In Purgatory (Saturday 4 November, with Michelle Xen & The Neon Wild, Fat Picnic, Mayhem For Mary, Papperbok, The Impostars and Banging Bitches).
