PREMIERE: Cuban Classic 'El Cuarto De Tula' Gets A Jamaican Twist From The Havana Meets Kingston Crew

The single is part of Mista Savona's ambitious Cuban-Jamaican fusion project, due out this November on ABC Music.

Mista Savona's eagerly awaited Havana Meets Kingston album is just over a month away from being released, and to help keep the fires of intrigue alight, theMusic.com.au is stoked to be premiering the video for brand new single El Cuarto De Tula today.

The new tune is a boisterous, highly infectious affair, and has been released simultaneously with another single, Candela. Both songs are reworkings of classic Cuban tracks, and appeared on the original Buena Vista Social Club album, released in 1997.

"It's hard to believe the Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded over twenty years ago," Savona said in a statement. "So when we were recording at the very same studio in Havana, I knew I had to take some classics from that record and see how we could get futuristic on them — how could we give them a uniquely Jamaican twist."

"For El Cuarto De Tula, the rhythm section is pure dancehall, a classic Jamaican feel," he continued. "At first, the Cuban percussionists protested, but within a few takes the sessions were cooking and we knew it would work."

The singles also come just ahead of the Havana Meets Kingston Sound System live tour, featuring Randy Valentine — who features on Candela — and Solis, marking the first time key tracks from the release have been performed live.

The tour, which is proudly presented by The Music, kicks off on 20 October at the Manning Bar, in Sydney, and heads to Cairns, Melbourne and Bangalow before wrapping up in style at North Stradbroke Island's Island Vibe Festival.

Havana Meets Kingston will be released on 3 November via ABC Music.
