"The lyrics mean a lot to me."
The latest clip from Brisbane rockers Blood Bank captures the raw intensity of their live show and DIY ethos of the single it’s based around.
Vocalist Sam Pennisi wrote the song following a bad breakup.
"I was in a pretty bad headspace not knowing who I was, what I wanted to do and certain of how I even fit in with my own friends,” he said.
“Shadow Boxing is a song we wrote about bad decision making and avoiding tackling things head-on. In my life, I’ve seen people do the wrong thing knowingly and then avoid facing the consequences of their own actions; they’ve got all the excuses to justify their actions but never deal with them.
"The lyrics mean a lot to me and If that connects with anyone else and how they feel, I’d be so grateful. The song has a lot of energy and I’d love people to feel that angsty-struggle the song has. I want people to feel like they’ve got a home in our music, as weird as that sounds."
