It’s been a pretty good year for Teij. Looking back, what were the highlights?
The release of Tell The Boys was a huge highlight. We had been sitting on the song since February so it was really exciting to put it out to the world. The official launch at Jimmy’s Den was about the most fun I’ve ever had onstage.
Tell us a bit about the new single, I’ll Never Be A Wife.
I wrote the song with girl power in mind. It’s about being in control of your body and your sexuality and putting the middle finger up to this idea that women are just waiting around for the right man to come and save them.

I was getting sick of people telling me that ‘the right one will come along’ or ‘he’ll find you when you least expect it’ and wrote this song as a tribute to the fact that I was killing it on my own. I was going to do what I want and was going to be so happy doing it. I really hoped it would resonate with other women.
On the surface it is melodically beautiful, but beneath there’s quite a dark musical underbelly. Is this a duality the band is attracted to?
I think there’s definitely an attraction to having the melody float over the top of dirty, dirty basslines and dark/cheeky lyrics. A lot of our writing has this really sultry vibe that offsets my vocals and it’s become a bit of a reoccurring theme.
Recording-wise what do you have up your sleeve?
We are heading back to RADA Studios in February to put down the next single with Matt Gio, we love that guy! We are keeping the details under wraps for now but I’m really excited about getting this one out.
Looking into 2016, what are your plans and hopes for the year ahead?
Next year will be all about writing and recording. We are hoping to get the EP out in May so that will be the main aim and then we will just have to see after that!
