What's the work you're presenting at Supersense? I will show my feature-length experimental cinema called Phantom Nebula 3D. In the first part, I will perform the music myself, while part two and part three is sound collage collaboration with Room5 (Norway) and Manuel Knapp (AT) and Hiroshi Hasegawa (JP). Every part has a different approach with image and sound. What ties it all together is my interest in creating a very strong abstract work. Audience can experience Phantom Nebula in 2D or 3D. If we use Neutral Density Filter when we see film, we can select how the images are seen. It's a very curious experience. I can say Phantom Nebula is an adventure of imagination with audience.
What is your process for creating non-narrative films? About the technical side, I shoot and collect materials from all sorts of nature phenomena. For example, water, cloud, plants, and edit them together. I also use film materials as abstract patterns, and from that create movement. After making images, I create sound and music for each image. I think my films are abstract, but they have a kind of narrative. I want believe narrative is inside of the audience's imagination. My biggest purpose of film making is organising and creating relationship between the screen and the audience.
Do you think you'll be inspired by Melbourne? I really hope so! This is the first visiting to Melbourne, I'm so excited.
