The Sunrise EP is a deeply personal project that brings together the raw and refined elements of my artistic journey. It’s been a process of self-discovery, exploring the intersections of vulnerability, empowerment, and expression. The EP captures different sides of my identity, offering a mix of sounds and stories that represent the journey I’ve been on.

Creating this EP in all honesty was a cathartic process. It wasn’t just about making music; it was about digging into parts of myself that I hadn’t always been comfortable sharing. As an Indigenous artist, there’s a sense of responsibility to stay true to my roots, but also to explore the complexity of what it means to be me in today’s world. The EP balances those elements—honouring my cultural heritage while embracing my personal growth, including my journey with my identity and the struggles of coming to terms with being queer. Each track feels like a different chapter, combining themes of love, self-realization, and resilience.

The creative process was a balance between experimentation and authenticity. I worked closely with a team of talented producers and collaborators, with each helping to contribute their unique talents to my vision of the project. The goal was always to keep it fresh while remaining grounded in who I am as an artist. We experimented with a range of genres, from upbeat, danceable tracks to slower, more reflective ballads. This diversity in sound gives listeners a true sense of the different layers of my identity, from the carefree confidence I exude on stage to the quiet, introspective moments that often go unnoticed.

The opening track Say It Loud, which was a standout for me from the beginning, sets the tone for the whole EP. This song reflects the struggle of self-acceptance and the challenge of embracing who you truly are. For me, that struggle was tied to my sexuality. I couldn’t 'Say It Loud' for a long time, and this song captures that significant part of my life that I was scared to reveal.

The title Sunrise symbolizes more than just being in the light; it also represents the transition from darkness to illumination, capturing the journey of self-discovery, the pursuit of passion, and living in the moment whilst embracing each day as if it were your last.

The EP can be broken down into three distinct chapters:

Chapter One: The Blooming (Twilight) centres on the initial struggles of self-acceptance. In Say It Loud, it’s about me confronting the fear of revealing my true self, especially regarding my sexuality, and the journey toward embracing that identity. No Longer Running continues this theme, depicting the emotional transition of reclaiming authenticity after a period of self-denial and breaking free from seeking external validation.

Chapter Two: The Climb (Dawn) explores the transition from comfort to pursuing one’s dreams, symbolized by leaving my small remote indigenous community, Mapoon. Dreaming reflects the bravery required to leave behind the familiar, highlighting the challenges of chasing aspirations. Way Up delves into self-reflection and perseverance, celebrating progress while acknowledging the uncertainties of the journey, with a message of gratitude and resilience.

Chapter Three: Sunshine Bliss (Sunrise) represents the culmination of this journey, where I fully embrace living in the moment and enjoying the rewards of my efforts. Feeling Good is an uplifting anthem about breaking free from negativity and celebrating self-confidence and having a good time. Live Everyday encapsulates the essence of the EP, urging listeners to seize every opportunity, live fearlessly, and create a life without regrets. Together, these songs form a cohesive narrative about moving from darkness to light, pursuing passions, and living each day as if it were the last.

What people can experience when listening to Sunrise is a reflection of the human experience in its full spectrum. It’s a blend of energy and calm, power and fragility, light and dark. As much as the project is personal, I wanted it to be universal. I want listeners to find themselves in these songs, whether they’re in a place of joy or self-reflection. The hope is that anyone who listens can relate, feel heard, and find comfort in knowing that they aren’t alone in the struggles and triumphs of life.

This project is more than just an EP—it’s a snapshot of where I am right now in my life and my music. It’s a celebration of everything I’ve experienced so far and a look forward to what’s to come. As I’ve worked through these songs, I’ve learned more about myself than I could have imagined. Now, I’m excited to share that journey with others and hope that, through this music, people can experience the same sense of awakening, empowerment, and connection that I felt in creating it.
