What is your store called?
Stash Records
Where are you located?
557 Old Cleveland Road, Camp Hill and online here.
Tell us about the people behind the scenes?
First and foremost we have Skip, who has been with the shop since day one. He looks like a delusional rock star, but loves his funk, soul, and R&B. Encyclopaedic knowledge of all things music. Drummer extraordinaire.

Immy, who works Saturdays and has been with the shop since September 2023. She loves her music, with Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Soundgarden at the top of her list.
And Nick, who has been a member of the team since the start of 2024. He does the majority of the social posts and shop displays. He’s also a massive Mike Patton fan/nerd. And Skip’s carer/support-animal.
When and why did the store open?
The shop at Camp Hill was once Audio Tailor, a high-end hi-fi store. When they outgrew the space, they moved to a larger location and kept the shop open, as a record store. We’ll be celebrating our 6th year in September.
What do your customers most know you for?
An excellent mix of new and pre-loved. Friendly atmosphere. Fair prices. Great banter. Our shared knowledge. Dad jokes. And the best Alfresco Chum (bargain bins) in town.
What is the most popular title you stock at the moment?
The new Amyl & The Sniffers and the 40th anniversary of INXS’ Listen Like Thieves have been doing really well.
What is the most popular evergreen title?
Without a doubt, it’s Bob Marley & The Wailers - Legend. That one is a constant seller. Portishead - Dummy and Nirvana - Nevermind are close runners up.
What is the best thing about running a record store in 2025?
The people. And their stories. That’s hands down the best part. We love hearing what folks are into, what gets them excited, and the bands that mean the world to them. Everyone’s got a favourite album or best-gig-ever story, and we never get tired of hearing them. Recommending something to someone and having them come back saying, “That was amazing!”—there’s nothing better. It’s like doing a tiny bit of good in the world. And we get loads of great tips back too. Music flying around, stories being swapped—it’s more than a shop. It’s a little community, and we absolutely love being part of it.
What is the hardest thing about running a record store in 2025?
The hardest part? Probably just keeping up with everything behind the scenes. Bigger chains and online stores can buy in bulk and get better deals from distributors, so it’s tricky for small shops like ours to stay competitive on price. Sourcing new releases can be hit or miss too—sometimes it’s hard to get stock in time, or at a price we think feels fair for our customers. Shipping costs keep creeping up, and with the cost of living being what it is, we know people have to be selective with their fun money. It’s a challenge—but one we’re always up for.
