So tell us first of all how the inspiration for Filthy Look came about? I wanted to create a brand that embodied all of the creative influences that have shaped my visual style over the years. It’s totally inspired by the surf, skate and music magazines I grew up with, the imagery, the tone and the lifestyle that those pictures represented.
You’re foremost a cinematographer. What made you decide to move into fashion, and do you have any plans to combine the two passions, fashion and film, in the future? The reason for getting into this game and launching the Filthy Look brand was so I could explore my passion for photography, music, fashion and art while having the freedom of creativity of doing it under
my own brand. So I absolutely have plans to combine filmmaking and fashion into upcoming projects. The plan is to make original content that is entertaining and appealing to a global audience. Narrative drama pieces, creative artistic videos and short-form documentaries are all slated for 2015.
You’ve said in the past that you love how an artist or song can be captured in a single frame or photo. If this line had a soundtrack, what would be on it? The soundtrack would probably have something from The Clash, Sex Pistols… Anarchy In The UK, for sure. Some Rage Against The Machine and Kings Of Leon as well.
Music as an inspiration on your work is clear, having already seen popularity with the brand skyrocket amongst musicians. Who are some of the musicians that are behind Filthy Look already? Some local musos who are getting into the Filth include Hunter Adams who is a super talented guitarist and singer-songwriter. We will be doing some collaborations with her very soon, with her original music providing the soundtrack to a short film we are producing. Also Mish Vincent who is a drummer currently touring with The McClymonts and sporting her Filthy tee on stage at a bunch of gigs including Campfire Festival in the Hunter Valley.
Are there any musicians who would you love to dress in future? I reckon Azealia Banks would kill in a Filthy tee!
