BIGSOUND returns to the Fortitude Valley in Brisbane next month, hosting the most impressive emerging and established acts on its music festival, and music industry figures and performers locked in as Speakers for its Conference.

Simply put, it’s the Australian music industry’s biggest week of the calendar year, and there’s a lot going on. From showcases to parties to conferences and even more, it’s BIGSOUND’s music festival that is annually renowned for everyday punters and industry figures for its programming.

Ahead of this year’s BIGSOUND music festival, returning to 18 stages across the Valley from 2-5 September, The Music has caught up with some of the must-see artists performing next month and asked them: how would you pitch yourself? How do you describe your music?

“Pitching” is a skill required by basically all creatives in 2025, whether they’re musicians, journalists, producers, video and audio creators—the list goes on. Find out what the Class of BIGSOUND 2025 had to say about their music.

BADASSMUTHA

If I had to describe who BADASSMUTHA is and what kind of music she does, she’s a bit all over the shop! She’s a mixed bag of lollies! One minute, you’re going to get some pop, funky vibes; you’re gonna get some soulfulness; you’re gonna get some reggae, some roots, some R&B… who knows what you’re gonna get? But you’re gonna have a good time and good vibes: that’s what.

Briana Dinsdale

How I would describe my music to someone who’s never heard it is just… timeless twang. Timeless country; timeless country that hopefully is never gonna go out of style. That’s what I listen to, music that I think doesn’t ever go out of style, so that’s what I try to re-create, and I really hope that you’ll love my set at BIGSOUND.

Chloe Styler

For those that don’t know me, it’s pretty simple: my love language is break-up songs.

dogworld

For someone who hasn’t heard dogworld before, I would describe it as a mix – a whole goodie bag of different things. We’ve got that post-punk sound, a lot of that ‘90s shoegaze kind of vibe, trying to spice it up more with a little electronic… four different vocalists, so you get a bit of different sounds in the vocals… there’s something for everyone.

Effe

My biggest inspo for my music is Dido, and I would describe my sound as an amalgamation of trip-hop, alternative pop, and dream pop.

GLVES

I describe my music as existential pop. It’s a little bit alt-pop, it’s all about connection, identity, it’s got elements that are very dark and cinematic. It’s all about storytelling and embracing belonging and everything that makes us whole.

Harper Bloom

I would describe myself as queer, quirky, and cheeky indie-pop.

Lucky

I would describe Lucky as heavy but delicate, and a big genre blend of indie/alt/rock/pop stuff.

Mannequin Death Squad

This is a good one; this is a hard one. Songs that you can sing to whilst in a circle pit. Chaotic but catchy, crazy, and poppy - let’s keep it at that!

Nightlight

Our music… imagine if Ariana Grande and Bring Me The Horizon had a musical baby and then that baby could scream like Poppy and rage like Ashnikko. Yeah, that’s Nightlight.

Puree

I would say we’re an indie rock/pop-ish style, but within that style, you can expect a lot of silly, goofy, high-energy bollocks. Good times!

Sunsick Daisy

We describe ourselves as an eclectic mix of high-energy pop, rock and shoegaze. A unique sound, for sure.

Taija

I think one word I’d use to describe myself is ever-changing. Everything I produce and create is different to the track beforehand.

The Stamps

If no one had seen us before, I’d probably describe us as three friends who sing three-part harmonies around one mic, lots of feelings, emotion, but lots of fun as well.

All of the above artists will perform at BIGSOUND 2025. To attend or find out more about the 2025 music festival program, head to the BIGSOUND website.
