Skrillex

Sonny John Moore (born January 15, 1988), known professionally as Skrillex, is an American DJ and music producer. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles and Northern California, he joined the post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount in 2004 and Heroine in 2006) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007. He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. After recruiting a new band lineup, Moore joined the Alternative Press Tour to support bands such as All Time Low and the Rocket Summer, and appeared on the cover of Alternative Press's annual "100 Bands You Need to Know" issue. After releasing the Gypsyhook EP in 2009, Moore was scheduled to record his debut studio album, Bells, with producer Noah Shain. He ceased production of the album, however, and began performing under the name Skrillex, distributing the dubstep EP My Name Is Skrillex for free download on his official MySpace page. Subsequently, he released the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late 2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid-2011, both of which have since become moderate commercial successes. On November 30, 2011, he received five Grammy Award nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three: "Best Dance/Electronica Album", "Best Dance Recording", and "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical". In December 2011, the BBC announced that he had been nominated for their Sound of 2012 poll. The same month, he was also named MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year. Skrillex released his first studio album Recess in 2014. His second and third albums, Quest for Fire and Don't Get Too Close, were released one day apart in 2023.

Skrillex has won eight Grammy Awards, more than any other electronic dance music artist. Skrillex has collaborated with Diplo and Boys Noize to form the groups Jack Ü and Dog Blood respectively. It was announced on Moore's 29th birthday, that he reunited with From First to Last and released a single named "Make War". In 2017, Skrillex produced and mixed 8, the eighth studio album by rock band Incubus. In July 2017, Skrillex released another single featuring debuting solo artist Poo Bear.

Video: Skrillex - Doompy Poomp Directed By Fleur & Manu
Skrillex combines with directors Fleur & Manu as part of the Creators Project.. Following the news of Sable's appearance in the latest Skrillex Selects playlist, we have some more Skrillex-related news that's no less worthy of your attention. The producer has teamed up with The Creators Project for a video clip to a song he himself has deemed unclassifiable - Doompy Poomp, from last year's Recess album. The video was made by incredibly talented French director duo Fleur & Manu (who recently did the visually impressive clip for Movement's Ivory), and follows one man's attempt at getting a home loan, but quickly escalates into a hilarious and repetitive alter-dimension. It packs some seriously loopy Mr Oizo vibes, and is all kinds of awesome. To read more about the colab, check out The Creators Project. Follow Skrillex: FACEBOOK / SOUNDCLOUD / TWITTER / WEBSITE

Video: Skrillex - Fuck That
In a word: hectic.. As he approaches an Australian return for the upcoming Stereosonic Festivals, Skrillex has dropped an epic - and rather intense - clip for Fuck That from his latest LP, Recess. Reading the YouTube comments is pretty fun too - his fans expecting the usual dubstep sounds but getting an (IMO) absolutely killer piece of bassy house - are really not appreciating this change in direction. I reckon it's fucking sick. But I digress... The clip is directed by Nabil Elderkin - no slouch in the video clip world, having worked with the likes of Kanye West (Mercy), James Blake (Overgrown) and that brilliant video for Alt-J's Hunger Of The Pine. Anyways, strap yourself in for what is essentially a five-minute short film about an encarcerated street fighter who quickly falls back into bad habits: Follow Skrillex: FACEBOOK

Skrillex Selects Slumberjack
The banger-machine has been vibing on Perth duo Slumberjack.. We're not sure what's bigger news this week - that Skrillex just performed a Celine Dion cover on a grand piano on Diplo's boat party in the Carribean, or that young Perth producers/Wonderland local headliners Slumberjack just had their track Body Cry feat. Father Dude (the first from an upcoming EP release) hand-selected by the internationally renowned Skrillex to feature on his Top 10 Tracks on his Skrillex Selects Soundcloud. The second one is definitely more exciting to us... and means huge exposure for Perth's electronic music scene - although Skrillex does have a quite nice voice.   On top of Skrillex's heckers tour schedule (that in the last few months has seen him play huge festivals Coachella, Hard Summer, Ultra Festival, the Mad Decent Boat Party, and will very soon see him jet around Australia for Stereosonic Festival), the producer otherwise known as Sonny Moore is widely regarded for his taste making and talent-

Skrillex Text Message Interview
We've held off on text interviews for a while, but decided Skrillex was a good reason to start them again.. Last week saw the - somewhat surprising - release of Skrillex's debut album, Recess, via a mysterious App/game he put up on his website. Unlocking a new track every 30 minutes, you could stream it via said App until its ACTUAL RELEASE in Australia last Friday - tomorrow in America. What it also meant was we had an opportunity to not only revive a format which we put to bed for a while in the Text Interview, but chat to an old friend who we hadn't seen around this part of the world for a couple of years. What ensued was plenty of bro-ing out, some emoji descriptions, how Recess came to be, Australian producer discussion and some TV show called Heavyweights.
