New Music: Sam Smith – Leave Your Lover (Motez Remix)
Motez puts his midas touch on Sam Smith’s latest single Leave Your Lover.. After thrashing out an huuuge set at Pilerats very own Wonderland Festival at the end of 2014 Motez has now started 2015 with a remix of Sam Smith’s Leave Your Lover that carries some serious fire. And at nearly six minutes in length it’s how house should be, slow-burning, full of dark bass lines and dulcet vocals. It’s even better when you’ve got Sam Smith’s voice to mess around with. Opening up with a steady clap, slow piano keys and that candied voice it slowly melds from a emotive atmosphere into a heaving wub-filled beast. From there the leviathan that has formed bursts throughout the track but also fuses easily with the golden tweaks that Motez add alongside Sam Smith’s vocals. And while it’s only the beginning of 2015 this remix is a definite stand out already.

Interview: Alex Burnett (Sparkadia)
Pilerats chat with Alex Burnett about songwriting for artists like Motez and Digitalism ahead of his panel at EMC this week.. Hey man how’s it going, are you still in London at the moment? I just got back to Sydney this morning. Feeling pretty wack. I’ve been in London.  A lot of the work I do is out of London but I do lots of work with Australian artists. So this trip is a to say hi to the family and work with some people who I started doing things with at the beginning of the year. Cool! So for people reading this who don’t know, you’ve worked with people like Motez, Digitalism, Elizabeth Rose and Flight Facilities, when did you shift from Sparkadia to working with producers? Before I had a guitar on, and did a lot of indie-pop and rock stuff, but I think around 2010 I got drafted in to write some stuff for Digitalism. I found it fun and easy. It’s about hooks all the time and tension release. Whereas the music I had done was more about leading into the chorus and adding more guitar

Don't say we didn't warn you in our little article about the Aussie House Scene at the moment (HERE).  And not a moment too soon, Motez has released a rad new video clip for his latest single Own Up, and it's as sexy and smooth as the tune it plays under: Follow Motez on FACEBOOK // SOUNDCLOUD

RUFUS - Atlas Light/Dark Deluxe Edition
One of last year's best albums is about to give a whole lot more.. Much the way Flume seemed to dominate the end of 2012/beginning of 2013, the second half of last year steaming into 2014 felt like Sydney trio RÜFÜS' time when it came to Australian electronic music. In a world full of beatsy solo producers the three-piece released their debut album Atlas, filled with four-to-the-floor indie-dance rhythms, some darker housey stylings and a heap of anthems. Atlas debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts, reached gold status, racked up three tracks in triple j’s Hottest 100 and has been nominated for multiple ARIA awards. Since then they've been dominating summer music festivals, along with their own sold-out national tours, no doubt peaking with their upcoming headline slot on the Mixup Stage at Splendour In The Grass. To celebrate a pretty fucking brilliant year, they've announced the release of the Atlas Light/Dark Deluxe Edition, a double album that celebrates the tracks from the original re

The Aussie House Scene Is Killing It
Stick ya future-beat up ya butt using your trap-hands, mate.. With the term ‘Australian Sound’ fortunately very quickly falling out of favour, the focus still remains on the artists who fall under that banner, who are admittedly killing it *cough* Sable *cough*. Today however... Today is about the 4x4 as we cast our gaze outside of that particular scene, and onto this country's killer haus music scene. House as a genre is a perennial stayer, but its popularity definitely ebbs and flows in Australia, especially in today’s EDM/ADD club climate. Overseas acts like Disclosure and more recently Tchami are definitely paving the way in 2014 for a more accepting-to-groove climate. ANNNYWAY, yes there’ll be a couple of familiar faces on here, and yes this is another list just rattling off producer names who we think are doing good things... But hang a while, click play on a couple of these tracks, and next time you’re out on the dingleberries and the guy in the DJ booth takes the vibe from 145
