Album Review: Yon Yonson - Yes No Sorry

StarStarStarStar

"Sometimes you're dealing with The Avalanches on a suburban bedroom budget, or a slightly politer Regurgitator."

For six years or so snippets of Yon Yonson have been turning up in the inbox and there's always curiosity at what you'll get.

There's usually an electronic base and some found sounds, maybe a hip hop edge in places. So, sometimes you're dealing with The Avalanches on a suburban bedroom budget, or a slightly politer Regurgitator — seen in Figurine's synth pop with a bit of snark. They can be prosaic and romantic, often at once: This Evening comes on a ripple of piano, throws in mentions of David Koch and Milton Friedman, then the electronic burps and farts kick in toward the end. A band of neatly idiosyncratic geeky charm.
