When i first saw KIRIN J CALLINAN I was transfixed, hypnotised by the throbbing melodies and pulsating rhythms brought about by one man and his guitar. From then on I went to see CALLINAN play whenever I got the chance, his live shows consistently surreal, morphing through textured landscapes and big beat (almost electronica) tracks, each of which highly danceable.
Having whispered an echo to the electronica world: “Cover me… Remix me”, CALLINAN’s music had walked the edge of this knife for the longest time with no response. Until now.
The weirdness continues, though seemingly more structured than CALLINANwould usually allow, his malleable cerebral membrane of aural textures and ephemeral beats now captured within the 4 minutes and 29 seconds of the Midnight Juggernauts remix, (Turkish Prison Opening Credits).
Retaining a similar feel, with regard to the overall tone, you begin to hear hints of what CALLINAN could do dressed in fluro colours, with glow sticks in his hair. With every remix you lose some elements and win others, and although this is a killer remix, my purist heart is calling for the obscurity of the original track.
