Waiting Room

"'Waiting Room' is one of this Fringe World’s most thought-provoking and powerful experiences."

Coletivo e o Escambau’S production Waiting Room is one of Fringe World 2015’s most hypnotic and inventive Dance & Physical Theatre creations. Perth Centre of Photography, tucked into Aberdeen Street, is transformed into its unique character’s intricate mindscape.

Janaína Moraes’ solo performance/choreographic installation examines the intensifying relationship between creator, setting, and audience. PCP’s first viewing area places Moraes in full view of the outside world. Moraes, by repeatedly changing outfits in front of everyone, assuredly dissects modernity and femininity’s true foibles.

Social barriers become torn down by the show’s undying energy and perplexing turns. Awkward silences and open viewing spaces heighten the show’s tangible emotional and spiritual impact. Moraes, pulling us literally and figuratively into her universe, adapts to fit her audience and setting each night. Her naturalistic, Swan-like improvisational technique displays a captivating transition from uncertainty to inspiration. Moraes’s flexibility and creativity are integral to the show’s complex dynamic. Waiting Room is one of this Fringe World’s most thought-provoking and powerful experiences.
