Starting with a lo-fi drum pattern Good Lovelies quickly arrive with their sweet intertwined harmonies to elevate the opening track into a quirky, sparkling pop-laced folk song.
They’ve tried to mix things up here, sonically and in their songwriting, and at times it works very well. Too often though the curse of over-production sanitises their obvious country/folk collective vocal ability and a certain tweeness takes over. When they avoid the airbrushing, as they do on the sweet, aching lilt of When The City Settles, it feels exponentially more real and believable.
