SleepmakeswavesParched as they are of capital letters, sleepmakeswaves' …and so we destroyed everything was an entirely impressive album, but this remix release has taken the whole factory and churned out something completely different. sleepmakeswaves' earthy, organic and often brutal post-rock carries it's own weight, but from the opening chords of Our Time Is Short, But Our Watch Is Slow remixed by the great 65daysofstatic, you know ...and then they remixed everything is going to be something different.
It blasts into that group's easy-to-pick clicky and glitchy electro-rock, while still holding the outline of the original. Then there's the gradually creeping dirge of Rosetta's In Limbs And Joints remix, before the utterly catchy-as-fuck Klue treatment of Voices In The Forest, complete with almost jungle beats and samples of Australian birds. Our own Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving take over for some noisy, Lynch-esque sonic experimentation in A Gaze Blank And Pitiless As The Sun (actually a remix of a remix). Kyson, Glasfrosch and Atlantis all drop spacey electronic mixes, before Ten Thousand Free Men & Their Families take on the sleepmakeswaves guys themselves for (Hello) Chip Mountain for an epic 8-bit adventure, before a deep doom finish with Am Frequencies' After They Destroyed Eveyrthing mix.
sleepmakeswaves brought in a lot of favours from mates on this album, working with some good mates and touring friends to get these tracks. It's nothing that I expected in the first place. It was a great surprise, and a good testament to the work ethic and camaraderie between the bands.
