Dream On, DreamerPost-hardcore outfit Silverstein travelled from the other side of the globe to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Discovering The Waterfront with their Aussie fans.
Perth locals Make Believe Me started the night off, immediately getting the crowd’s adrenaline pumping. Two band members sporting majestic manes stood on opposite ends of the stage, which, intentionally or not, allowed for delightful synchronised hair flips every now and then. Vocals were split up between singer and screamer, and though this combination has become a little formulaic over the years, it definitely worked for them. The boys played with an album-ready level of polish and this finesse convinced a fair amount of the incoming crowd to forgo the outside foyer and head straight to the stage. And ultimately, that says a lot, when you can fill the Amp's room before 9pm.
All the prime standing spots had already been claimed by the time Aveira Skies came on, their set so heavy it was bound to have punctured an eardrum or two. Soon afterwards, Marcel Gadacz of Dream On, Dreamer approached the stage with undeniable swagger and a simple request: “Let’s get this place moving – right now.” And so it was done. The band brought a new energy to the stage, and this was transferred to the crowd, band and fans thrashing in unison. Darkness Brought Me Here was a fan favourite, with some folks even singing along.
The room was a claustrophobe’s nightmare by the time Silverstein got up, the air already stained with a tinge of sweat. The Canadian five-piece kicked things off with Smashed Into Pieces and Massachusetts. Frontman Shane Told seamlessly transitioned from screams to singing time and time again, while the rest of the band kept things tight and flawless.
Crowd-surfing had begun by song number three, Sacrifice. From there, fans were treated to a taste of Silverstein’s upcoming record, I Am Alive In Everything I Touch.
Three little words made the audience lose their shit: “It’s that time.” The band launched into Your Sword Versus My Dagger, before playing their most-loved album to date – Discovering The Waterfront – in its entirety. Fans were lapping up this trip down memory lane, fist-pumping, moshing and drunkenly singing along all night. It’s safe to say that this is one Mother’s Day that’s going to be hard to top.
