Sydneysider Joshua Gibb makes naturalistic, multi-layered electronic suites under the moniker Setec.
His debut album Brittle As Bones is one of the most accomplished and assured releases this reviewer has heard for some time. Second track For Water Or Concrete is the perfect example – a muted soundscape lullaby, segueing from found-sound percussion to nebulous loops, hushed samples and Gibb’s own voice, all melding together to become a breathing, naturalistic wonder.
The fact that the other tracks on the album (Lumen Lake, Glassworks) rival this heartbreaking beauty is enough reason to champion Setec from the rooftops.
