"It's obvious this group has devoted their life to their sound."
Hailing from the Sunshine State, five-piece Moses Gunn Collective deliver the perfect storm of psychedelic rock, complete with sparkly attire, in support of the release for their album Mercy Mountain.
With the super-tight, dreamy indie rockers Pentecostal kick-starting the night, the second support, Black Zeros, hold the fort with their heavier grungy rock. The female lead vocalist spills her heart out over the loud, tight rhythmic tunes.
It is then time for a short break to grab a beer at the bar, before Moses Gunn Collective enter the stage. Unsubtle with their shiny dresses, glitter-painted faces and loud rock tunes, lead singer Aidan Moore gets everyone warmed up by spilling glitter into the crowd and then jumping straight into their first song, Back Into The Womb, from the new record.
Samuel Sargent keeps the band nice and tight behind the kit; it's obvious this group has devoted their life to their sound, as they don't miss a single beat. Alex Mitchell on bass holds the crowd, and is probably recognised as the most entertaining member. He tells the story behind each song with his dance moves and outrageous facial expressions. With glitter all over the members' faces, it is hard to look away from them. Then, as lead guitarist Lewis Stephenson takes time out for an unexpected re-stringing of his guitar, the front members step up to hold the performance together. Although it's slightly awkward, they pull it off with their happy-go-lucky attitudes, Mitchell deciding he'd whip out a sneaky flute solo. Despite giving off the impression that he can't play, he doesn't do such a bad job; though thankfully his act is saved with their next song, Colour Television. This is the perfect heavy psychedelic rock song to jump back into, as it completely steals the crowd's attention, diverting everyone in the room back to the whole reason we are there: to dance to good music. Bella Carroll on keys also figures out a way of incorporating the hit and miss kazoo, but definitely succeeding as a hit.
