Album Review: Manika Kaur - I Bow To You Waheguru

StarStarStar

"There are nods to the traditional Indian sources but Kaur manages to make this an intriguing trip."

Somewhere between the concept of spiritual awakening and traditional Sikh musicianship lies Kaur’s expressive form of meditation.

Fortunately the music transcends the artificial nature of this genre and you get the feeling Kaur knows how to maintain credibility. The album is produced by the wonderfully talented Talvin Singh, who brings a great balance of electronic instrumentation together with the traditional instruments. Kaur sings in both English and Punjabi, guiding the musicians through different soundscapes. There are nods to the traditional Indian sources but Kaur manages to make this an intriguing trip.
