"A rewarding balance between ornate folk songs and more adventurous leanings."

Here We Go Magic member Luke Temple is now five albums deep into his solo career and he's struck a rewarding balance between ornate folk songs and more adventurous leanings where he places the songs in contemporary and texturally atmospheric settings.

You can hear shades of Paul Simon in Temple's progressive leanings and clear desire to take folk songs out of their simple and predictable structures and place them in new and creative sonic environments. The prime example is The Complicated Men Of The 1940s with its Smog-like chug and rhythmic trappings. The songs still shine through, as do Temple's mild eccentricities, making this a beguiling and subtly contagious album.
