Newest track from Rachel Maria Cox is full of humour and a fun emo-pop sound, and a deeper reflection on sobriety, in preparation fo their third album
Rachel Maria Cox has released their latest piece of unique emo-pop, in the bop-able single ‘Prosecco’. The artist has been making waves in Australian music ever since their 2017 debut record Untidy Lines, which received critical acclaim from triple j, Rolling Stone Australia and Australian Guitar Magazine.
Released via their own label Sad Grrrls Club, ‘Prosecco’ is a track that really sparkles with a fun and bubbly energy of not taking yourself too seriously. Rachel Maria Cox explains the idea behind the tune originated when they were gifted a bottle of Prosecco, after being a few years sober. This brought about a humorous realisation that while a nice thought, it would be bad if they tried it, much like having a crush on someone you know is no good for you.
Rachel Maria Cox describes, “I think it’s good to look at sobriety as something that’s normal and not a big deal. The song’s supposed to be a bit of fun, a bit silly and toe the line a bit between sexy and awkward as hell”.

Rachel Maria Cox is also very open about their struggle with mental health, telling a drunk in love story from the tongue in cheek point of view someone several years sober.
They reflect, “I’ve worked super hard at becoming a better person, taking care of myself, and putting a lot of energy into recovery.”
‘Prosecco’ can be found on all streaming platforms, and a third full length release is due out later this year with the support of the American Express Music Backers Grant.
