Looking like Nicki Minaj 2.0, UK-native NY-based LOUISE CHANTAL has just released the follow up to her first single. This latest track, ‘Purple Rain’ seems to pick up where Prince left off. Which is great, seeing as the royal one has decided to take all his music off the web.

Purple Rain is an affliction of restlessness and sorrow, the state of loving someone who will never be able to reciprocate those feelings, a longing that will likely never be met. Listening to Louise Chantal’s track, it sounds a lot more hopeful than this pessimistic prognosis. You get the feeling, from the assured and steady drums, the upbeat synths and high-flying vocals, that she’s going to be okay. It all sounds very much like a phoenix rising from the ashes sort of thing.

Her mid-range vocals match the R&B beats, showing off an empowered voice and a sensual aesthetic. Produced by J Soundz, ‘Purple Rain’ is a rhythmic floating ballad, so powerful and poignant that you can’t help but get onboard with Chantal. She’s been wronged, but that’s not going to hold her down.

Her debut ‘Genuflect’ was angelic, as is ‘Purple Rain’, and the two tracks mark out a clear sonic intention for her soon-to-be-released debut EP Welcome To Aranbi. And no, we don’t know where Aranbi is either.
