LA-based trio HUNDRED WATERS have dropped a tantalising teaser track ahead of their album release this Friday. 'Wave To Anchor' is a powerful, confident ballad with a beat, demonstrating Hundred Waters' growing dominance over the folk-electro genre they have created for themselves.
The band, comprised of vocalist Nicole Miglis, producer Trayer Tryon and drummer Zach Tetreault, formed in Gainesville, Florida in 2011 and created buzz when they were signed to Skrillex's predominantly electronic OWSLA record label in 2012. They have built a devoted following since then, touring with names like Alt-J and The xx and collaborating with Chance The Rapper.
'Wave To Anchor' is an uplifting track, from the hypnotic vocals to the unexpected combination of orchestral sounds and electro beats. It is a taste of what's to come, says Miglis. “From a broad lens,” she explains, “the album is a breakup. It starts with a need for independence and it ends with an ‘all better,’ like we did it: we learned, we loved, we separated, and now it’s time for the next chapter.”
The members of Hundred Waters are also responsible for curating Form Festival, along with their friend and collaborator Moses Sumney. Form is a unique community festival in the desert of Arizona that has become a yearly event, reflecting Hundred Waters passion for music and the organic growth of their craft. Their third album, Communicating, is out Friday September 15 on Pod via Inertia Music. Expect the unexpected.
