"Everything you could want and more from a rock show."
The Gov was absolutely buzzing with The Belligerents and Lurch & Chief warming the crowd up. After a huge year with not one but two of their songs making in to triple j’s 2014 Hottest 100, it’s no surprise Kingswood would bring a sold-out crowd to The Gov.
Kingswood came to the stage armed with everything you could want and more from a rock show. Giving the eager punters a good laugh to start the night, lead guitarist Alex Laska had troubles getting himself ready and proceeded to drop his guitar and piggy back their sound guy. “That’s how I like to start all my gigs. By fucking it up,” he joked. After the big lead-up, they opened their set with their ever-popular hit She’s My Baby, with the crowd immediately letting loose and getting into it.
They nailed All Too Much and Sucker Punch, the opening two tracks from their album, Micro Wars. Their guitar sound was unbelievable; in fact the entire sound for the night was spot on.
The crowd got down and grooved to So Long, followed by a funky instrumental, and there wasn’t a person in the room that didn’t belt out the chorus to I Can Feel That You Don’t Love Me.
After the crowd cheered ‘Kingswood, Kingswood!’ in the hope of an encore, the lads returned to play an extra half-hour, which included long, groovy instrumentals, singalongs and crowd surfing. They belted out another hit, Micro Wars, Piece By Piece, Chronos and crowd favourite, Ohio, which was hands down the best performance of the night. Lead singer Fergus Lincare took his microphone around to punters to join in the singalong of that infectiously catchy chorus.
Overall this was a rock show that went beyond expectations, and no doubt would’ve left a few punters with sore necks from all the head-banging that went on. Kingswood have definitely established themselves as one of the best rock bands in Australia and their show is undoubtedly a must-see and worth far more than the price of the ticket.
