Tourist showed they’re certainly heading in the right direction and we’ll all be looking forward to hearing more new material from them in the future.

There was a really cruisy vibe around Ya Ya's on Saturday night as punters settled down into booths and chairs to enjoy a night of funk and soul, the centrepiece being locals Tourist, ready to launch a fresh new single. The~Gypsie~Howls threw the aforementioned vibes out the window with a ballsy-as-all-hell set of tracks that had everyone throwing their heads around. Lead vocalist Kirsty Hulka was marvellous in front of the mic and keys with a gutsy voice and fantastic growl. Keep an eye on these guys; they're dynamic and great fun to watch.
The stars of the night Tourist were the second band to grace the stage, and it was obvious from the outset that the band were raring to please the audience with their performance, producing a remarkably tight set absent of any flaw. Their show contained a diversity of tunes from the band's catalogue, such as older tunes, Hopeless and Truth; however, the highlight of the night, and most fittingly so, was the single the band was there to launch: Holding On To What Hurts. Lyrically, the tune contains a deeper undertone that delves beyond the light-hearted instrumentals, which worked the audience into a groove. The crowd erupted in cheer once the band finished the tune, signifying a positive response and the band members finished the set with the widest of grins across their faces.
Dilip 'N The Davs played last at Tourist's request, and it was somewhat fitting as Dilip himself compelled the crowd to get on their feet and dance the night away to a blend of reggae, ska and funk rhythms. All in all, it was a fantastic night for local music. Tourist showed they're certainly heading in the right direction and we'll all be looking forward to hearing more new material from them in the future. Keep it up, guys!
