"You realise commercial considerations certainly won over art."

More Diana Krall More Diana Krall

Diana Krall can be a wonderful interpreter or even re-interpreter of popular song.

Her previous album – the stylish Glad Rag Doll – gave life to some ‘20s and ‘30s jazz obscurities and standards. But this, sadly, is firmly back in dinner-party soundtrack territory. The song choices are mostly safe pop, from California Dreamin’ to blanding out Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over, all delivered over tasteful, tinkling piano and relaxed vocalising. Then Michael Bublé turns up to duet on Alone Again (Naturally) and you realise commercial considerations certainly won over art in this case.
