More Crooked Colours More Crooked Colours

Perth trio Crooked Colours, took over Brisbane nightclub The Met for the one-year anniversary tour of their debut album Vera.

Being a sold-out show in a very, very tight space, gig-goers covered every inch of the damn place. There was not an open space in sight and absolutely no room for a cheeky boogie, but nevertheless the audience energy was at its peak and the stage was set for Crooked Colours to showcase their electronica masterpiece.

The boys wasted absolutely no time getting the show started with title track Vera. This was accompanied by visuals of their floral album artwork, creating a dim and strictly purple setting. Flowing straight into Plymouth, Phil Slabber’s chilling vocals soared throughout the room, immersing each crowd member into the hypnotic loops and thundering bass.

With minimal crowd interaction, the trio powered through crowd favourites All Eyes, Show Meand Shine On and also threw in a very Crooked Colours version of Baby Bash’s 2003 hit Suga Suga. Although there wasn’t much talking among the trio there was a strong sense of humbleness and it was evident that the setlist was based on pleasing the audience, and man did it ever.

As the night came to an end they certainly were not simmering down, and they saw the crowd out with new track I’ll Be There, a quick and effective group pic and of course crowd favourite Flow.

After chants of encore were screamed, Crooked Colours took to the stage for one last time and ended on a high with the six-minute, bass-drenched track Perfect Run. Although the performance could have benefited from a slightly larger venue, Crooked Colours pulled off a stunning performance that flowed perfectly with a flawlessly curated setlist. Producing absolute bangers, these Perth boys know what their fans want and they deliver.
