The feeling that something’s missing. On Childhood’s debut record, that something is originality. Each track recalls a multitude of bands who’ve produced the same sounds with superior results. Most deliver washy, cymbal-heavy guitar romps closely reminiscent of Real Estate, while others evoke Kurt Vile and occasionally Coldplay.
Lacuna is a breezy, well-intentioned listen that never provides a compelling argument as to why it needs to exist. Childhood are young and capable, if not yet compelling. With their ‘tribute’ record out of the way, all eyes are on the future.
