London shoegaze mavens Cheatahs struck gold last year with their debut album.
This four-song follow-up is striking while the iron is hot – yet there isn’t much here that really builds on the atmosphere developed in their album. The title track is a fairly rote MBV-via-Pure At Heart noisy pop melange – sonorous and pretty… and pretty bland. Elsewhere the swirling instrumentation is more urgent, offering decent tracks in their own right (especially the punk-flecked No Drones), but it’s the warmth (and Tortoise-esque breakdowns) of Controller that truly intrigues.
