Live Review: Allday, Remi

21 October 2014 | 5:39 pm | Louise Horobin

Allday is all energy in Adelaide.

More Allday More Allday

Melbourne indie/hip hop emcee, Remi, was a great support for Allday as he had the crowd buzzing and eager.

Remi interacted with the crowd exceptionally and was able to connect them to his beats; he had almost the whole audience waving in unison. He finished off his set with well-known hits Sangria and Tyson, which had the crowd literally roaring for more.

Allday has become an Australian hip hop gem in such a short amount of time!

2012 saw him a winner of the triple j Unearthed/NIDA competition, and he released his very successful single, Sick Sad World, in 2013 and his debut album, Startup Cult, in July this year. This guy has done nothing but improve exponentially. Born in Adelaide, now living in Melbourne, it was a delight to see him play in his hometown. Comparing tonight to his last performance in Adelaide, he seemed much more relaxed and interactive this time around. It was almost shocking to see how much better he was.

Being an album launch for Startup Cult it’s no surprise Allday played mostly tracks from the album. Right Now and You Always Know The DJ were real crowd pleasers, played with a lot of energy and love. It was evident from the look on Allday’s face how stoked he was to be performing. Claude Monet, Wasting Time and So Good also saw the crowd get wild. Being an underage concert the age range was rather varied with even a whole family and their children got in on the action. All in all, it was quite a tame affair.

However, towards the end the crowd got more and more excited, which eventually resulted in a three-man tower of fans who wanted to gain Allday’s attention. The guys were stopped, but only to have them try again a few minutes later, which did catch Allday’s eye and resulted in encouragement. After his last song had played Allday jumped off stage, fans demanding an encore.

Returning with even more energy than before, he pumped out Steezed Out, off the new mixtape, Euphoria, energy radiating out to the audience, resulting in a really energetic and impressive end to another show.
