New Music: Kevin Gates - Luca Brasi 2 Mixtape
Emotional thug Kevin Gates finishes 2014 strong with the Luca Brasi 2 Mixtape.. Louisiana rapper Kevin Gates and 2014 XXL Mag Freshmen Class member Kevin Gates is hard at work on his album for Atlantic Records right now, but in the meantime he's not leaving us hanging, finishing up 2014 strong with the delivery of his Gangsta Grillz mixtape, Luca Brasi 2, hosted by DJ Drama. It's the follow up to his 2013 breakthrough mixtape The Luca Brasi Story, and his most recent release since By Any Means, which came out earlier this year (he also jumped on a track with Rustie not too long ago). He’s joined on the tape by Atlanta's Rich Homie Quan (Word Around Town), R&B upstart August Alsina (I Don’t Get Tired #IDGT), B.O.B. (Talk on Phones), Red on Da Track for Perfect Imperfection and John Gotti (which also made it onto the tracklist for By Any Means), Rico Love, Bobby Johnson, B.O.B. and Bobbie Black. "Kevin Gates, I'm everybody's sworn favourite": for those new to Gates, his appeal lies mostl

New Music: Azealia Banks - Chasing Time (Høwl Remix)
Høwl drops a fiery remix of Azealia Banks' Chasing Time.. Not to be confused with Ta-Ku and Kit Pop's project HWLS, Høwl is Melbourne wunder-kid James Moriarty's (also the same name as the central villain in Sherlock Holmes) moniker where he drops some vicious knick/snare combos that make us think of Sable/Night Cruise. While the young producer has had a short history it's been an inciting one when he dropped a Friday Freebie for us and also featured on the recent Rat Pack #2 Compilation. And now he has remixed Azealia Banks. This guy has our hearts' a flutter. Høwl changes up Chasing Time into a hyper-active, pounding trip. And his traditionally bass-driven focus drifts a little as he tweaks the vocals alongside some glittering synths that give the feeling that the track just recieved an injection of adrenaline. New Music: Hiatus Kaiyote - By Fire EP
Grammy nominated band Hiatus Kaiyote have just dropped their electronic, soul infused EP In Fire.. One of the most impressive Australian stories of musical triumph in recent years is Hiatus Kaiyote; a band that dabbles in electronic-infused R&B, and were the first Australian group to be nominated for a Grammy in the R&B Performance catergory. You can listen to the award-nominated single, Nakamarra, HERE. They also played a stunning set in Melbourne as part of a Boiler Room series, which you can re-watch here, along with downloading the audio from the set. They've also just released a three track EP, By Fire, ahead of their sophomore album, Choose Your Weapon, which will arrive in the new year. By Fire as a whole highlights Nai Palm's scintillating voice, the merging of electronic polyrhythms with more traditional rhythm and blues and lashings of otherwordly moods. It's this refreshing distillation of both organic and seemingly artifical sounds that creates a vibrant love affair. The ti

Gasp x Pilerats.com Guest Mix
Meet the NZ-based producer forging his own path at 17 years of age - Gasp.. A few weeks back we decided to set up our own Pilerats.com Soundcloud to give us free reign to post all the rad new music we discover through the Pilerats website, and avoid any confusion with our own Pilerats Records releases. It also gives us the opportunity to host some guest mixes moving forward, kicking off with this one from 17-year-old New Zealand-based producer Eden Burns AKA Gasp. Having already had guest mixes with the likes of THUMP and Red Bull Studios Auckland, Gasp's keen interest in the house genre bucks the trend of New Zealand's love affair with drum'n'bass in the past. Take a listen below, and check the brief chat we had with the young gun after that: Hey Eden, thanks for answering a few questions and sending us the mix! First up, you’re only 17, but you’ve been making music in bands and on your own for some time now, what first prompted the shift from bands into production? The band I was

New Music: iLoveMakonnen EP Re-Release
The 'Tuesday' rapper is re-releasing his self-titled EP on Drake's label, OVO.. Now that Drake's signed Atlanta rap oddball/legend iLoveMakonnen (Makonnen Sheran) to his label, OVO, Drake's decided he's going to re-release iLoveMakonnen's self-titled EP, ILOVEMAKONNEN, on Dec 15. The original EP dropped in July but didn't take off straight away, until Tuesday became a runaway hit (not to mention basically a pop culture phrase) and the hype ball started rolling (probably had everything to do with that cover our Pilerats' Records artists HAMJAM did, TBH). It's contemporary Atlanta rap scene vibes all the way, with features from Father and Key! (as well as Drake, on Tuesday), and production from Mike WiLL Made It (who recently released the tracklist to his own much-anticpated mixtape, Ransom) and Metro Boomin. Rumour has it that iLoveMakonnen's also got a lengthier project in the works with Mike WILL Made-It. The EP's out next week. Here's the tracklist: 1. I Don't Sell Molly No More (pro

New Music: Jam City - Kindness Remix & Crisis
Jam City remixes Kindness' Who Do You Love, and offers a newbie of his own, Crisis.. Night Slugs' producer Jam City has given Kindness and Robyn's track Who Do You Love, of Kindness' Otherness album, a moody, metallic remix for a forthcoming remix EP of the track. Jam City was in the studio with Kindness when he started working on the original sample for Who Do You Love, and helped Kindness with a few tips, so his inclusion in the remix EP was a natural step: "I had no idea what Jam City would come up with, but I'm honored he's re-worked Who Do You Love into something so Jam City-ish!," Kindness told FADER. The remix EP is out early January and will also feature remixes from Joakim and Jeremy Sylvester. Stream Jam City's remix of Who Do You Love HERE. London producer Jam City's behind some of our favourite tracks, he provided the production for Kelela's Keep It Cool, of her incredible CUT 4 ME mixtape from last year, and also collaborated with Oakland rap duo Main Attrakionz for a trac
